what the press say...
"It boasts an excellent selection of beers and wines, more than ample seating and, most importantly, the music is at a perfect volume. The service was nothing short of excellent, the atmosphere was perfect for both wining and dining, and the menu had enough choice to demand a second visit."
"Where the venue really shines is with its weekend brunch menu, particularly excellent is The Refinery Fully Loaded – a full English breakfast, complete with your choice of eggs, sweet cured bacon, grilled sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes and toast. It’s extremely filling and excellent value for £7.95... Whatever time you go, the staff are friendly, professional and efficient, which only adds to your experience."
"the refinery is a good looking bar. The bar boasts a great range of beers and an above-average wine list featuring some pleasingly left-field choices. Its location makes it ideal for popping into after a visit to the Tate Modern."
"Agreeable mishmash of styles (gothic, industrial, postmodern & 1950s kitsch) attracts a crowd of youngish, modish punters."
"A sleek and spacious new addition to Southwark’s eateries… A great range of wines by the glass make it perfect for after-work drinks and dinner with friends."
"the refinery sets the tone for the future"
"the refinery has definitely hit the spot through a combination of a distinctly urban style, incredibly good value contemporary food and helpful and friendly service, providing a much-need boost to the area."
"The fish was well-cooked in butter, the flesh firm and moist. On the regular menu, several things appealed, but the chicken breast, stuffed with marscapone and wild mushrooms, wrapped in crispy pancetta stood out, and was a great choice. A portion of truffle fries with parmesan shavings were fabulous: perfectly crisp and crunchy, fluffy on the inside, and packing a huge wallop of luxurious, musky truffle flavour. The parmesan was a nice finishing touch.
Service at The Refinery is professional and unobtrusive, but also welcoming and friendly. If you do find yourself in SE1, it's worth venturing away from the perhaps better known spots close to London Bridge or Waterloo, and spending some time at the refinery"
